The Great Hucklow Fell Race 2013 will be on Sunday, July 21st, with races starting from 10.20 am. Registration, start and finish are all at The Foundry Outdoor Centre, Great Hucklow (SK 176 779 map). Registration will be open by 9.30am and close at 10.30am. Entry is on the day only, at a cost of £5. Follow the 'get here' link for more details on finding us. The route of the Great Hucklow Fell Race takes you on a unique and varied route of about 10km (6 miles) with about 340m (1000') of ascent. The route is well marked and marshalled, taking you up Durham Edge, over Abney Moor and down to run up and out of Bretton Clough. The fell race is run by the community of Great Hucklow and surroundings, with over 40 volunteers involved in organising and marshalling. All profits from the event go to charities. The event is under registration and regulation by the Fell Runners Association. Great Hucklow Fell Race is part of the Accelerate Gritstone Series. Junior Fell Race. 2012 saw the first running of the Great Hucklow Junior Fell Race, which was the last event in a new junior fell race series, the Gritty. With some lessons learned from the first try, the Junior Fell Race will run again, with Junior races expected to start from 10.20
The 2012 Great Hucklow Fell Race ran on Sunday 22nd July, with about 180 competitors in the adult race, and with the first running of the junior races adding to the fun. The adult race raised almost £900. With all the work it takes to put on the race done by volunteers, almost all of this goes to charities including Derbyshire Air Ambulance, Sheffield Children's Hospital, Derbyshire Cave Rescue and Great Hucklow Community Spirit.
